My Philosophy
My approach
to health and healing is very strongly based in the Vitalist
philosophy of old, that the body will heal itself if we can
learn to cooperate with its wisdom.
We, as therapists and alternative practitioners,
use many unique approaches, and this can be confusing. There
is no one remedy or therapy that works for all who try it,
and there is no one therapist who has success in all cases.
We need to be patient to find the combination of personality,
knowledge, skill and/or remedy that is right for us. We also
need to gain perspective as to what we are expecting, and
we need to have the willingness to do the work it will take
to get where we are trying to go.

You
can demystify your journey by appreciating these premises:
1) the
body is capable of healing itself
2) the
body, as with any natural order, will break down if
the abuse is too great
3) our
job, as body owners, is to cooperate with its
wisdom and innate healing abilities. |
The
original Naturopathic Tradition, during the time of Hippocrates,
advised fresh air, clean water, wholesome food, rest and exercise.
In recent times the study of natural healing has evolved
to include the science and understanding the physiological,
emotional, spiritual and energetic levels of wellness, but our
focus has remained the examination of what creates health
rather than to study disease and its processes.
Two
main principles of application have evolved from this focus
which greatly simplifies the steps toward health:
-
we
can cooperate with our body by giving it what it needs
to do all the jobs we are expecting of it, (which we very
much take for granted), and
-
we
can cooperate by removing the things which interfere
with its health maintenance
By
using this formula in a comprehensive way many people are
able to get important results quickly and with far less costs
and struggle.
I am a firm believer in the holisitic approach and endeavour
within my practice to use a simplified and workable health
strategy which blends the traditional Vitalists philosophy
with new progressive science.
I
do not adhere to any one system but have been significantly
influenced by the practice of naturopathy during my education
and training in the various clinics where I have worked (Halifax,
Toronto, Calgary). Also, I have come to recognize a number
of conditions that present themselves over and over so there
are a few issues that I discuss with most people. And finally,
I believe that healing comes from within ourselves and is
not 'done' to us. I have been in the field long enough to
know there is no one 'best way'. All of the healing tools
available to us have both their testimonials of success as
well as disappointments and failures. You will find me open
minded and receptive. I feel you are better equipped to remedy
your health concern if you are provided with explanations
and are guided towards solutions that you can manage.

My
job is to educate and to inform so that you can manage your
stress in order to improve the quality of your life. By understanding
the causes of stress
we can begin to see how to self correct in ways that can make
noticeable changes in how we feel. To this end I bring my
knowledge and experience, or if you are already sufficiently
aware, to consult and facilitate as need be. If I feel I am
unable to guide you in meaningful ways then perhaps I can
point you to a new direction on your journey.
I encourage my clients to read the simple book on energy healing
by Adam (Adam
Dreamhealer II) to help create an awareness of your
role in healing, and a willingness to accept that role. The
book explains concepts, otherwise foreign to us, in the most
loving and understandable ways, without the slightest judgment.
I hope you will pick it up and learn of the incredible potential
you have within you.
